Course Description

The instructor will discuss the important skills to become a fly fishing master, important knots, rod repair, selection of materials, identification of the various bugs that can be represented by artificial flies and individual classes devoted to tying the four major types of flies, streamers, nymphs, wet flies, and dry flies. Fly fishing and fly tying is considered an art and a science. Most who learn the skills needed to tie flies end up making it a lifetime hobby and passion. This class will teach students about the different knots involved with fishing and tying flies and how each of those knots are used. It will provide an overview of the equipment used for fishing and how to properly care for and maintain your equipment. An exciting part of this class will include the study of the various bugs found in our local streams and how to identify the species of insects that are part of the life cycle in our waters. This all leads to the equipment and materials used to tie lures that resemble and imitate the insects that will catch fish.
