Course Description

The goal of this course is to provide foundational definitions and concepts in Smart Manufacturing to help manufacturers better use their data and start a journey of digital transformation. The digital transformation requires the participation of an entire enterprise, therefore all currently employed manufacturing professionals ranging from managers to engineers will benefit from this introductory overview. This course is designed for individuals with experience in traditional manufacturing who want to lead improvements by making better use of data and creating a culture of data driven decisions
Learning Objectives:
1. Define key ideas in Smart Manufacturing in context of Industry 4.0
2. Explain the importance and value of data in a modern enterprise
3. Describe data networks and architecture in a modern automation pyramid
4. Follow a systematic process for data driven decision making
5. Explain the value and uses of a digital twin and digital thread
6. List steps and industry recommendations for approaching digital transformation
