Course Description

This course will provide the basic skills necessary to us Adobe InDesign to electronically design layouts for printed materials (advertising, brochures, catalogs, etc.) in single- and multi-page formats.  Students will learn how to import .DOC and .TXT text-based files and image files (.EPS, .JPG, .TIF).  The course will also provide an understanding of how to properly export files to .PDF, .JPG, and legacy .IDML formats as well as how to “package” files for production.  Additionally, students will learn proper file management /organization and folder/file nomenclature.  Keyboard shortcuts (key commands) will be a central focus of the course.  At the end of this course participants will be able to: 
- Demonstrate the basics of layout/composition principles
- Adjust “Preferences” and “Document Setup” application/file settings
- Create multi-page files with text linked across multiple pages
- Edit/add/delete color swatches
- Import .DOC and .TXT text-based files
- Import image files (.EPS, .JPG, .TIF, etc.)
- Export .PDF, .JPG, and legacy. IDML file formats
- Package files for production
- Demonstrate proper file management/organization and folder/file nomenclature
- Demonstrate production-level keyboard shortcuts (key commands)
