Course Description

Students examine several cases of white collar female offenders through Edwinh Sutherland's theory. A brief analysis of the relationships, situations, and social bonds prevalent in each case may shed light on white collar female criminals including: Martha Stewart, Lea Fastow, & Betty Vinson. Students examine how women in these positions, especially those with accounting careers, provide the perfect opportunity for white collar criminals to commit criminal acts. Students examine if these women fared better than men when facing trial and if the criminal justice system is sexist when it comes to women offenders.
