Course Description

The program will consist of 12 hours of training offered over two consecutive days and draws on the American Organization of Nurse Executive (AONE) Nurse Manager Competencies. The program recognizes that an important step toward creating an effective leaders is to understand the history of American leadership and how it influences management styles and approaches. Taking into consideration the unique challenge that healthcare places on leadership and the evolving processes being put in place by today's information technology, this seminar gives nurses an understanding of how these challenges affect the roles performed by both staff and leadership. This seminar will also help nurse leaders develop strategies to overcome challenges in budgeting and finance, staffing and turnover, and other barriers to supporting nursing practice and providing good care.

The program is offered in a face-to-face format at Penn State DuBois and will also be available through teleconferencing. Instruction can also be delivered by remote broadcast to the Community Education Center in St. Marys and to any agency with appropriate teleconferencing capabilities upon advanced request.
