Course Description

Composting food and other organics using force aeration teaches the fundamentals of using the aerated static pile method to enable composters to handle food wastes, manures, and other, hard to handle organic residuals in a method with greater odor control and greater through put per unit area. This is a highly technical course on designing and implementing the aerated static pile method, including fan and pipe sizing, control systems, pad modifications, environmental considerations, and regulatory ramifications. It will include a site visit to one or two ASP operations.
