Course Description

Fundamentals of hydrology/environmental concerns learn the fundamentals of groundwater and surface water hydrology with particular emphasis on the hydrologic cycle, movement of groundwater, types and properties of aquifers, and components of drainage basins and river systems in PA. Students will learn the importance of protecting groundwater and drinking water resources during drilling activities; why large volumes of water are needed to support hydraulic fracturing of the wells and what water resources the drilling industry will use. Students also gain an understanding of how drilling can negatively impact groundwater and surface water resources.
