Course Description

This training, delivered over four days, reviews the establishment and modification of support orders. By the end of this training, participants will be able to (1) Describe the legal considerations for a person who files for child support; (2) Explain the types of support orders DRS workers can issue on a support case; (3) Define Establishment Types and assess this status for a support case; (4) Identify the differences between allocated and unallocated support orders; (5) Differentiate between two and three tier process to establish or modify support orders; (6) Explain the legal requirements governing the income and expense verification parties must provide at the support conference; (7) Summarize rules of evidence at support proceedings; (8) Assess a party's LEP needs; (9) Explain the legal requirements and your county procedures for conducting a telephone conference; (10) Describe other conditions of a support order that you may need to include in the written support order; (11) Describe when parties in the support action can agree to a support order; (12) Enter new financial and non-financial support obligations in PACSES; (13) Describe a tiered order; (14) Explain the calculation that occurs for retroactive and normal arrears for a new and modified financial obligations; (15) Complete financial adjustments and support case holds; (16) Modify existing support obligations in PACSES; (17) Explain the automatic three-year review process; and (18) Discuss the state law, rules and exceptions related to emancipation. Training will be assessed through active participation in the course.
