Course Description

Children and families throughout our country have experienced trauma which impacts the brain, bodies, behaviors and academic achievement of students. Participants will define trauma and understand the societal impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). They will also learn about the importance of Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) children need to buffer trauma and build resilience. They will identify signs and symptoms of trauma that may be seen in the classroom and school environment. Participants will closely and actively examine the concepts of trauma, the neuroscience behind it and gain an understanding of self as a human and educator. They will then learn the essentials to as it relates to the ability to co-regulate with a student who is exhibiting signs of dysregulation in school. Once the skills are identified, the focus of this hands-on workshop will be to develop a trauma lens to bring back into the school environment.

Participants may earn 2 Act 48 PDE hours if certified in the state of Pennsylvania.
