Course Description

Informal leadership exists at all levels in organizations and often, it is an individual contributor whose expertise or input is sought out by others, who is identified as a “Lead” in their group.  Not typically responsible for holding people on their team accountable for performance, they utilize other tools to motivate by example, manage team dynamics and may step in to help settle disputes among team members.  Typically, they possess expertise in their area, are trusted and respected and desire to actively contribute to the goals of the company. They may be high on the list for consideration for formal leadership positions and their “lead” role is looked at as a steppingstone to that formal position.

Why Choose this Program:
Does your organization cultivate emerging leaders?  Have you elevated individual contributors who have demonstrated leadership characteristics to more responsible roles?  Do your formal leaders lean on informal leaders in their groups as a way of compensating for skill gaps?  If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, then this Leadership Program designed specifically for Emerging Leaders can provide those people with the interpersonal and interactive skills they need to be successful.
Early-career leaders not provided with the support and development they need to be successful may consider leaving your organization.  Losing those potential leaders can both strain the organization because of the turnover, but also rob the organization of being able to grow the formal leaders of the future.  Placing higher expectations on potential leaders without having a strategy to provide the skills they need could result in losing the employees you most want to retain.
Participants will learn:
Their unique role in the organization; informal leadership and both opportunities and limitations
The challenges of an emerging leader, understanding their impact on others and gaining respect
Influencing and motivating others to give their best
             Encouraging teamwork and collaboration
Managing conflict and disagreements with others and helping others to be more effective in situations where disagreements occur
