Course Description

Children and families throughout our country have experienced trauma which impacts the brain, bodies, behaviors and academic achievement of students. Participants will define trauma and understand the societal impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). They will also learn about the importance of Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) children need to buffer trauma and build resilience. People often ask: Why do some people with trauma in their lives seem to thrive and survive, while others do not? This course will identify elements of resilience in their own lives as well as their students. Participants will closely and actively examine the concepts of resiliency skills and ways to develop these through strong, healthy relationships. Once the skills are identified, the focus of this hands-on workshop will be to develop a resiliency plan to bring back into the school environment.
