Course Description

Children and families throughout our country have experienced trauma which impacts the brain, bodies, behaviors and academic achievement of students. Participants will define trauma and understand the societal impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). They will also learn about the importance of Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) children need to buffer trauma and build resilience. They will identify signs and symptoms of vicarious and secondary trauma that may be seen in themselves and school environment. Participants will closely and actively examine the concepts of burnout and gain an understanding of the importance of self-care as a human and educator. They will then learn the 6 areas of wellness and apply a lens to reflect on their own health and well-being to prevent burnout. Once the skills are identified, the focus of this hands-on workshop will be to develop a self-care plan to bring back into their lives so they can remain healthy and resilient educators.
