Course Description

Join us virtually as we discuss these two contemporary classic novels, in which characters in very different circumstances discover that the path to finding their true selves lies in standing up for what they believe.   
The Giver, set in a highly controlled, futuristic society, explores such topics as individuality and freedom of choice; utopia and dystopia; and human emotion and isolation.
The Book Thief, historical novel set in Nazi Germany, explores the power of words, human kindness and cruelty, and daring to be different.
We will discuss themes such as:
•Is society as it appears?
•The power of knowledge
•Daring to be different
•Humanity and dehumanization
•Identity and morality
