ENGR 5034 - Digital Tools for Product Development
Course Description
This course covers the fundamentals of digital design, engineering and manufacturing applications as well as 3D printing in product development and manufacturing.
You will learn about: 2D sketches and how to create layouts , creating 3D part models, basic engineering drawings for 3D CAD models, basic rendering of 3D models, overview and demonstration of computer-aided engineering (CAE) and simulations, overview and demonstration of Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and how to set-up a tool path, fundamentals of Additive Manufacturing (AM/3D printing), how to design and set-up parts for 3D printing, how to transfer CAD data from one CAD system to another.
Course benefits: understand and apply the fundamentals of digital design (CAD, CAE & CAM) starting with SolidWorks and moving into AutoCAD Fusion 360 and SolidEdge, learn the basic aspects of each system and how to apply the skills through in-class labs, learn about AM and how to build 3D parts, become familiar with career opportunities available to you in the space, three-week course (~3 hours, 2x/week).
Developed for individuals with little to no background in computer-aided design (CAD) who are considering a career in product design, development and manufacturing. The course is also open to companies with staff who wish to learn CAD.
