ENGR 5010 - Digital Manufacturing Essentials – Level 2
Course Description
This program is designed for employed workers with a background/education in manufacturing such as plant supervisors, equipment operators, engineers, and experienced manufacturing technicians and workers. Designed for individuals with practical and applied experience in manufacturing, this course will enhance their knowledge in digital/smart manufacturing (D/SM) technologies and processes to build on their overall skills in manufacturing and inform them about the steps and processes to transform their manufacturing operations using automation and the power of data. Topics covered are derived from the International Society of Automation’s (ISA) 95 automation pyramid and include a detailed understanding of smart manufacturing from design to production operations, impact and application of computer-aided processes in operations, the latest in manufacturing operations software, understanding and the application of sensors and actuators (I/O), data collection, data analysis/visualization and data management principles, and operational management tools and systems (SCADA, MES ,etc.). Other areas covered include fundamentals of industrial robotics and application in automation, business case development for automation, change management and project management principles for manufacturing. Topics will be introduced through a balanced combination of lecture presentations, demonstrations and hands-on lab activities to build basic competencies in these topics.
